São Martinho do Porto is a bustling seaside town nestled in a shell shaped, almost land-locked bay which is completely safe for young children to play in the water. To the South is Salir do Porto which has endless sand dunes which also make it a huge attraction for kids of all ages.

Caldas da Rainha - 10km inland and well worth a visit is the sprawling spa town of Caldas da Rainha which has a major shopping centre with a daily market. The towns prosperity came from its thermal cures, its fruit farming and ceramics, the most famous ceramic piece being the green cabbage leaf majolica ware which can be found in many outlets. Within the ceramics factory you can visit the ceramics museum ‘Museu de Cerâmica’ which shows examples of religious and humorous work of the caricaturist and potter Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. |
