In 1148, Dom Afonso Henriques recaptured the town of Óbidos from the moors.  Later in 1282, the king of Portugal Dom Dinis made a wedding present of the town to his new wife Dona Isabel.

To visitors, this charming town looks like a medieval film set, it has been carefully restored and its inhabitants take careful pride in maintaining the architectural image of days gone by.  The town itself is full of quaint cobbled streets, quirky little shops and cozy café bars.

There are a number of very good golf courses in Portugal, close to Óbidos is the Praia D’el Rey, this course has twice been chosen for hosting the European Cup.
