October 2011

Week Forty

The weather has been great and it continues into this week too, as you will see on our facebook page from the walk pictures not a cloud in sight , it has been so warm the walks have been taken near the water where it is cooler and a pleasant change for the camera lens too!!!

We have been using the pool almost daily and fired up a few BBQ’s in the evenings too, great for October.

Our walnut tree continues to drop it’s fruits, looks as if we are getting a bumper harvest of these. With the growing areas looking after themselves mostly we have moved our attention to the gardens near the house, we have been clearing and replanting and this will be the start of new gardening projects on the not so tidy parts.

Now October is upon us we are looking at what to produce for Christmas, our first line of apple and cranberry relish was made this week.

Week Forty One

Heat wave!!  We thought last week was warm but its still on the up here. We had to do our outside work in bits and ignored any heavy work for now. Made a few of our lines that were a little light and worked on the web sites. With mum being here our output is a little light some days but hey is that not what holidays are about!! Plenty of planning for next year going on as we want a couple of new lines.

Week Forty Two

……..   Yes more sun, not as hot as last week but still plenty of heat, if I didn’t say you would only complain!!!!

The long period of hot sun has been great for us as we can pick our chillies and they dry in the sun along with the walnuts, we think it looks great all laid out and hanging in the sun during the day. This year we have lots and lots more dried chillies despite the earlier problems, where we suffer is in the range but what we have is quality product which makes us happy ….. Why not order some and try them you won’t be disappointed.

Decking by the pool got a coat of linseed oil, it’s the best product we have found for this job so far and gets done 3 or 4 times a year. Spring bulbs are being planted in pots for an early showing.

Week Forty Three

There you go ….   Rain this week, gallons of the stuff, the ground went from just like concrete to bottom of river bed practically overnight. When it comes it comes in sheets.

As you can imagine not a lot happened on the ground this week so we began to tidy the garage and poly tunnels to get rid of any rubbish we had collected. This weather also gave us time to see a few friends which were forgotten about over the summer.

Biggest down part of the week was dumping our remaining potatoes because they were infested with potato eel worm or moth if not the same thing! We believe we brought it into our store in the reds as they were the worst.
